Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter January 11, 2015

This time next weekend folks will be coming home from two big TORs on opposite ends of the South. I’m sure many folks will be in Dallas for the annual show. I’ve been a few times myself but this year I’ll be at Chris Jensen’s show which is just a little bit closer. There are some great auctions ending soon on eBay so take a few minutes to see what I’ve got for you today.

I know not everyone gets excited about seeing a batch of 1947 WJ patches go up for auction. However, since a similar patch broke the all time sales record several years back going for about $72,000 I always pay attention when those come up. Especially since ISCA “borrowed” that design for it’s logo.

The red OA sashes that a couple of North Carolina lodges produced have been popping up all over eBay. I think it will just be a matter of time before other lodges figure out this is a fundraising concept and go for it. However, it does open up an unpleasant can of worms. Nowhere does it have the lodge name – in fact that’s the idea. It looks like a national issue. So what happens when lodges across the country start making things that are similarly generic for anyone in the OA?

In the next block I have a link to the video that Hank Birdsong and I published this week on how to spread the patch bug. You probably have your own ideas too and I’d love if you would post them as a response to this video on Youtube or on CarolinaOA.com.

I think that later this month I’ll be ready to start filling in some of the categories on ScoutPatchHQ.com. I’ve got over twenty Jensen boxes already photographed I just need to list and launch.
