Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter January 12, 2021

As Doug shares in the interview the leads for the project were Russell Smart and Rick Bragga (National Museum Committee). They were helped by about a dozen dedicated volunteer Scouters including some from other countries. The exhibit was visited by thousands and thousands of participants and visitors like myself during the WSJ.

It seems that I’ve caused a little bit of a problem by delaying the publishing of this podcast as his book is now sold out. However, in an email yesterday Doug shared that he is looking at options to reprint it. But he can only do that if he knows there are collectors lined up to make a purchase so send him an email today at spiritofjamboree@gmail.com if you want to be on the list.

The Episode represents a return to action for the podcast as I’ve now hired an audio editor and will be putting out a bi-weekly rotation of more interviews with interesting people in our hobby. If you can support my efforts even at $2 per month (which would be $1 per episode) please consider joining the Scouting Hot Finds Insiders.

On eBay I have 180 live auctions running including a very special collection. This collection features about 80 pieces from the OA Centennial and OA Jamboree pieces. Some of these are staff items, chenille and hard to get donor pieces.

I am glad to finally get the great interview with Doug out there to share with everyone. This was recorded pre COVID lockdowns, pre me moving warehouses and pre summer camp being closed. So a lot happened in the months since. I hope that you will enjoy stepping back to remember great museum they assembled and staffed. I saw it up close and personal for a few hours at the Jamboree with my daughter and I was impressed.

Is there a book with photos that show’s a list of patches or items that would be considered a good item for collectors to be looking for?

There are some out of print books like George Cuhaj did a general price guide – don’t always trust the number as the collectible markets are up and down but it can at least give you an idea of what is rare and what is common which helps alot.
