100th Anniversary Patchblanket Member Patches

Now that all the updates are done on the site I want to get some feedback on an idea that I have to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the BSA. Patchblanket.com has been up and running since 2006 and during that time we’ve only had one patch made for the members. If you are new to the patchblanket you might now know that the webmaster issued a Jacket Patch for the site about a year ago. Only 100 of these were created and there are still some available at $5 each in my ProStore.

Patchblanket.com 6″ Jacket Patch – Charter Member Issue

What I’d like to do is create an incentive program to encourage activity on the site. Since we all love pretty cloth I’m thinking its just gotta be a patch! I know that’s what motivates me. :p

So here is my idea. When you join patchblanket you begin as a junior member. Then as you post the software keeps track of your activity and awards you titles next to your user name. I modeled this program after the trail to eagle so that if you are really a regular user it is just a matter of time before you can climb your way to Eagle. I’d like to design a patch for each level of membership on the site. As members earn that distincition I want to have a little Court of Honor and award those patches to them in recognition for their participation. Oh did I mention the best part – I’m paying for the patches!

My thought is that when you achieve the next “rank” on the site you can email me and I’ll award you the patch and send it to you on behalf of the site. Since we are all traders I’ll also make available to you the option to purchase some additional ones just above cost if you want to pick up some dupes to trade. Of course your first one is completely free but if I sell a few dupes it might make it easier to afford the freebie.

The question I have is what type of patch do the members want to see in a 100th Anniversary Patchblanket.com issue? The old Yahoo groups did a bunch of really pretty CSPs shaped patches. Does that work? Would people rather see a flap-shaped patch since they seem to trade well? Or is there something else that you can suggest? Maybe a central patch with chevrons that represent each rank advancement? I think there are many possibilities. I’d like to hear from the members before I get a designer to draw them up and send them off to a patch company.

So let me hear from you! I’m not really set on using the website logo for this special issue so let your imagination run wild. If you have patches that you think are really great ideas to base ours off of then attach them to your reply post so I can use them.

Also I am having trouble when I use the function to go back to the previous screen. I get hung up and have to abort Explorer then re start Explorer. It is ONLY happening with Patch Blanket and is a real nuisance.

Instead of birds, why not simply default to the rank symbols? Other than having BSA Legal give you a call, they would match the level titles nicely.

I use Firefox and have no trouble backing up. I tried it on IE8 and got this message:

Runtime error!

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.
