Pacific Skyline Council launched its 2010 Museum Tour this weekend with the opening of a special Scouting exhibit at the San Mateo County History Museum in Redwood City, CA. We will be opening a Scouting in Aviation exhibit at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, CA next month and have 5 other local museums or libraries putting on displays. Scouts who visit at least three of the exhibits and get their passport stamped can earn a special felt Museum Tour patch. PM me if you want more details.
I also attended the grand opening of a Scouting exhibit at the Benicia Historical Museum in Benicia, CA. It seems that there will be a host of special museum exhibits on the Boy Scouts this year, so I thought it would be nice to compile a list of these special exhibits across the nation. If you have any information on something in your area, please let me know and I’ll add it to the list. So here’s a start.

Just wanted to share some photos from the grand opening of our last museum, “Scouting in Aviation” at the Hiller Aviation Museum in San Carlos, CA. >Click here.<
There were about 150 people present, including a class of 45 Scouts taking the Aviation merit badge that day at the museum. The display features artifacts and memorabilia from Air Scouts, Air Explorers and Aviation Exploring, including a Type 1 Ace Medal, the first Aviation merit badge with the Wright Flyer design, all 18 Air Scout Specialist rankings, and the four Air Scout blue merit badges. As a special treat, we also have a Type 2 Ace Medal presented to an individual from Burlingame Air Scout Squadron 1, the only Air Scout unit in our council area. In a word, the content was awesome, and I tried to impress upon the visitors how what they were seeing would likely not be brought together in one place for them like this ever again.
We have a Museum Tour felt embroidered patch for visiting the museums with Scouting exhibits as part of our council’s 100th Anniversary activities. All of the Scouts and leaders were very busy getting their passports stamped. If you find yourself in the San Francisco Bay Area or want to copy this in your own area, please check out the Museum Tour Passport at the link below.
That is great information! Thanks for sharing and I hope if people know of more they will contact you and add to the list.
