Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter January 31, 2021

This weekend I visited my mom in SC but still made time to go picking. Through an old lodge friend I was connected with a gentleman who grew up in the update of SC that wanted to sell his Scouting memorabilia.

We met at the Wal-Mart in Lake City, SC to do a deal in the parking lot. But as often happens we spent 10 minutes looking at stuff and 30 minutes talking about his memories of Scouting and a little bit of politics. Interestingly he joined Scouts as a teenager and blazed through to get his Eagle in a few short years in the 1970s. Although just an Ordeal member of the OA he did do some trading back in the day.

The other thing I could not believe is that as a teenager he had an affinity for coffee mugs. In this collection there were 48 mugs. Now normally that would be a reason for me to run but about 15 of those were really nice OA mugs that I am sure will find a new home.

So while it was a three hour detour in my day I was happy to pick up a local collection and will start getting it sorted and scanned Monday. Any day you can go picking during the pandemic is a win! I saw a bunch of guys enjoying this weekend’s TOR in Oklahoma. So I am like everyone itching to get back out meeting people. We even shook hands to seal the deal which felt very refreshing.

I have 270 live auctions on eBay with 112 of those scheduled to end tonight. As usual it’s OA heavy with issues from many different lodges.

Tomorrow I’ll be publishing a new unboxing video to my YouTube channel. This one has a pair of collections that I got in recently. While they are nothing to write home about I am always happy to get new stuff.
