Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter May 12, 2019

For those of you that have been in the Scouting game for a while you will appreciate the difference between Year 1 and Year 2.  All the things you didn’t know you didn’t know versus the experience you gained from being in charge for a year.  That’s where I am this weekend as I make plans for training my staff starting with a work weekend May 17-19.

Last summer when staff week got here my program director had just arrived home from camp school and we pretty much game planned each day the night before.  Luckily we hired some great people and their enthusiasm and experience carried us through.

So what looks different in Year 2.  One is coming up with a plan before anybody arrives at camp.  The second is empowering other leaders in our staff to conduct some of the general training sessions and building that staff cohesion early.  With time to think about it I know where the emphasis needs to be.  We nailed it last year with great songs and campfires and I know that will be key to our success again.

I’ve got 292 live auctions running with about 100 of them ending tonight on eBay.  Most of these are OA flaps with a $7.99 minimum bid.  With my store subscription I’ve got 1000 free auctions to use every month and in April I did go through that many.

This weekend my wife and I got to enjoy the rarest of treats.  We shipped off our kids to my moms house and got to have an adult weekend.  Saturday we traveled to an art festival in Greenville called Artisphere and had a great time.  We actually bought some art and walked about 6 miles back and forth looking at all the booths and cute art studios in Greenville.  No way a 9 and 14 year old would have the patience to put up with that!
