Friday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter August 28, 2015

The big news for this issue is that I’ve updated the TOR calendar with more than a dozen shows added over the last two weeks. I feature that list every Friday and the new ones are highlighted in orange text.

There are some intriguing picks in this block. The infamous “nut” is featured here for merit badge collectors (that would be Fruit and Nut Culture MB). Luckily I’ve got that one already in my book. That is a neat lot of Neal slides lined up below and with the recent announcement that Scouts can wear neckerchiefs with their Class B’s there could be a renaissance for neckers!

Almost a month after NOAC and the red sashes are still changing hands on the auction boards. I guess it’s just a really good souvenir piece that people want to “put up”. I think that item was unique enough where even the closet adults who don’t claim to be collectors want one.

I know that the competition for a spot on the 2019 WJ IST or contingent will be stiff. My daughter will technically be old enough but likely would not have been a Venture Scout for long enough to push to the front of the line. Of course this assumes that she will go for Venturing but our time camping with the Girl Scouts has worked out well so I think I’ve got a decent shot at getting her in a forest green uniform shirt when the time comes.

My eBay store at www.Patchblanket.com continues to feature auctions on 2015 NOAC pieces. I did some heavy duty trading up there and came home with a bunch of dupes that I’m still running on the 5-day cycle.
