Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter August 20, 2017

I spoke on the phone last night to a gentleman who ended up with his father-in-law’s collection and was looking for suggestions on what to do. The sad part is he described how his wife’s dad could pick up any patch or item in the collection and tell you a story about it. We lose so much of our institutional memory in this hobby with the passing of each generation it’s just a sad thing to see.

I had another nice phone call this week with a patch dealer that I’m going to see at an upcoming TOR. He lamented that he sees Scouting continue to shrink and he is worried about the health of this hobby. We even discussed whether the BSA opening the door to girls would affect things in the hobby through a ripple effect. Nobody has a crystal ball but it’s fun to speculate and gossip about it anyways.

While on vacation I’m hoping to edit the audio of the two interviews that I did in anticipation of firing up my podcast this fall. That is my least favorite part of the process, editing out the ums and making everything sound crisp. I have several other interviews kinda in the works so maybe when I get home I can get those recorded as well.

Every few days I’ve been updating the readers on where my Jamboree auctions stand. Right now I’m sitting at 459 live auctions on eBay. The crush is over for me but I’m still seeing many things sell during this prime month after the Jamboree.
