Questionable 2011 WSJ Japan IST Badge

Jason asked about this strange looking Japan IST badge from the recent 2011 World Scout Jamboree in Sweden. I did not see any there, and I’m sure they would have been very popular if they were in the hands of traders. I’m checking with some of my new friends who were part of the Japanese IST to see if they can confirm it or not.

The figures clockwise from the top are Doraemon from the anime of the same name, Pikachu from the anime Pokemon, Lum from the anime Urusei Yatsura, Hello Kitty, and the Fuji Scout badge, the highest rank.

The patch seems to have originated from a seller in Hong Kong who is also the source of a woven Japan contingent badge (the official ones were embroidered) among many other items. Two have sold so far for $86 and $51. If it’s a fake, he’s really cleaning up!

Yep, I just confirmed that nobody has seen this Japan IST badge before. The only two official patches are the cloud designs with purple or blue border. The Japanese IST had the purple borders but they don’t seem to know the significance of the border colors.
