Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter September 3, 2017

Early this morning I got a message from a fellow collector in Charlotte that he had picked up one of the Rockwell Coin sets from the 1970s for $50 at an antique mall. Those have been $200 sets all day long for years on eBay. Just goes to show nothing beats picking on a weekend to turn up good Scout stuff.

It looks like people are receiving the newest edition of the Council Shoulder Insignia Guide in the mail this week. I have a copy of the last one and it was about 3 inches thick so I can’t imagine what this one weighs. I’m excited to see people talking about ways to make all these projects more user friendly because checklists are essential for serious collectors.

There are a lot of great collecting projects that many people don’t know about. One of those is www.Patchvalues.com. This was a crowd sourcing concept by Benjamin Birdsong of North Carolina. Before Brett Estrade rolled out his pricing site with eBay data, Benjamin was looking to make a site where collectors plugged in their opinions on values. Today it mostly features nice scans of all the OA flaps from the Carolinas.

I’ve got a free flap deal running on my ScoutPatchHQ.com website. If you go through the folder with hundreds of OA flaps that I have priced at $5 each and pick 11 then enter discount code “freeflap” at checkout you get that last one free. So I guess you could call this deal buy 10 get 1 free!
