Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter September 25, 2018

Tonight on eBay I have over 100 auctions ending. These are mostly relisted items where I dropped the prices after my first run. Sometimes with Scouting collectibles you don’t know exactly what the right number is for a minimum bid to protect yourself and give the bidder enough room to jump in.

Today I’m working on a project that literally has been sitting on a shelf forever. I don’t know that I have ever listed my home camp patches on eBay. I know that’s odd but I’ve been accumulating them for years and and now they fill 4+ Jensen boxes. Since my employee has the day off I’ve got patches spread out on the floor. I’m going to try and use the scans to post a blog post later too.

Tell me if this is a way to teach your kids to pay their way. Ever since Sophia got her cell phone we have made her pay for her data. This has usually meant getting paid minimum wage by dad for helping me do stuff for the patch business. But now I’ve decided to let her try and handle her own account and see if there is an entrepreneur inside that 14-year old brain. I have an account with a feedback of “7” and I’m going to let her loose on it and split the proceeds. I’ll share a link next week once she has made some progress.

I listed one of my favorite patches of all time this morning on my ScoutPatchHQ.com store. The Santee Vigil S4 was issued 1 per year for about 5 years in my lodge and they only made about 200 of them. I am guilty of sometimes hoarding really good stuff like this from my home lodge but if somebody else needs it to fill a big hole in their collection I’ll let them buy it.

This weekend for the first time since…well I can’t even remember…my wife and I have an empty nest. We have been too busy to pick a spot for a quick vacation but the plan is to take advantage of the kids being gone to have some down time.
