Name this website! – Contest

Ok gang I need your help. I’m in the middle of making a major decision (well at least for me) and I’d like to get your ideas. Some of you may have visited my blog at 2009noac.com. I created this site so that I could post blog entries from the event and also follow the action on eBay afterward. It was a lot of fun and I learned some valuable things that I will continue to work on in regards to technology etc. However, I don’t want to let this site wither on the vine even though the conference is now ancient history. I’ve been posting new posts each week, mainly about OA items on eBay. I’ve also sprinkled in a few other topics. Its similar to patchblanket.com in that I’m sharing information but its just a different platform.

Ok so what is the contest? Well as you might guess I need to come up with a new name/url for the website. I’ve toyed with some different ideas and just can’t comit to any that I’ve come up with. So here is your mission if you choose to accept it…reply to this thread with suggestions for the new name of this OA eBay blog. Once I make a decision I’ll get my web designer busy on the graphics and nail down the url address.

What’s in it for you? If I decide to go with the name you suggest I’ll give you a $25 e-gift card to use on my store over at www.santeeswapper.com. I’m going to keep this contest going for one week (until Weds. November 11th) so let me hear from you now. I can’t promise I’ll pick any of the suggestions but if I do decide on yours I’ll let everyone on the board know and email you regarding your e-gift card.

I announced this in my Tuesday Morning Hot Finds email but since the contest was running on this website I need to announce it here as well. After taking in all the suggestions and consulting with my think tank of advisers (namely my wife) I’ve decided to transform 2009noac.com into 2010jambo.com.

The whole idea behind the original site was to do an event based blog. Since the 2009 National Order of the Arrow Conference was a huge event that had not been held in three years and since I was attending for the first time as a registered delegate in a dozen years it made sense. So I jumped into a new technology (wordpress blogs) and did my best to report on both the trading and the patch action on eBay. In fact I enjoyed the platform so much that I kept posting into the fall as news from the 2009noac – both real and on eBay faded. So in thinking about what to morph the site into my little birdy (Allison) suggested that I roll into the next big event. She knew that over a year ago I purchased the domain name 2010jambo and was just sitting on it until the right time. So with 256 days 3 hours and 58 minutes until the Jamboree I figure now is as good a time as any.

You will still see a wide open approach to the site over the next eight months. The subtitle of the new site is “Patch Collecting eBay Blog” so that gives me plenty of latitude to blog about OA and other interesting things seen and heard in the hobby. But as the clock winds down and we all start packing our bags for Fort AP Hill one last time – I’ll be ready.

I appreciate all the people who suggested ideas. Shawn, Neal, and Nathan all gave me lenghty suggestion lists. Some of them were soo good I just might use them sometime in the future. So sadly no prize to hand out this time but I have gotten the idea that maybe its time to loosen things up on patchblanket a little and have some fun with contests and such. I’ve got a good idea for one that I’ll announce in the next few days when I find some more time to build a proper post around it. Until then thanks for visiting the site and I encourage you to post something soon. We had several new members join in the last month and I’m still waiting for some of them to make an appearance on the boards!

Awww . . . I already spent the $25 gift card! I decided to go squat on 2015NOAC.com but somebody already laid claim to it! Oh well. ^_^

Did I mention that I owned the urls 2012noac and 2015noac but the Boy Scouts tracked me down and wanted them back. They got my Scout Exec to lean on me so I said Uncle and let them have it.

Did they reimburse your registration expense for holding it for them? BTW, someone named John Clark from Brevard, NC has title to worldscoutjamboree2019.com. I guess he’ll be receiving a call soon.
