Awesome Insignia Auctions – Sashes, Medals Pins

I really confess I have no idea why this Silver Beaver Medal (below) went for amazing bucks on eBay. Nineteen bids were entered and the winning bidder was one of five people who bid over $1,500 for it. The other items I’ve included here were pretty impressive in their own right. I don’t recall every seeing the Eagle scholarship pin when I was building the Hot Finds newsletter. If I caught the World Award I don’t recall it. The two sashes were easy picks but they did really well.

It’s a Type 1 Silver Beaver. They were only issued for a year or two in the 1931-32 period, and are extremely rare. I am sure the community of Silver Beaver collectors greatly outnumbers the surviving, good-quality Type 1 medals.

It’s not something I routinely search for, but I only recall seeing one other on eBay in the last ten years. Most of the rarest OA you occasionally see a high-ticket set-price sale being offered, but I’ve never seen a T1SB sold that way.

Hi, can you explain Silver Beaver in detail?

Thanks.

The type 1 Silver Beaver was in the form of a medal pinned to the shirt instead of a neck ribbon medallion. They were only issued this way in the first year the Silver Beaver Award was offered.
