Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter December 21, 2014

Hank Birdsong and I have a new episode of our quick hitting video series Cloth Talk 2.0 published today. In this show we are sharing some ideas for how to organize your patch collection. While the series is built for the audience at CarolinaOA.com this video would appeal to any collector. I’ve got a link to watch it later in this newsletter.

It looks to me like we have evidence of a crime in one of these listings. At first glance that nice pre-WWII sash pictured below has MBs that were cut down to fit nicely on the sash. I’m sure the guilty mother thought she was doing the right thing but all these years later it leaves us collectors sad.

If you are wondering about the cool medal pictured below that is actually a lodge specific award. I didn’t go deep enough to research which lodge presents that one but it sure does beat the little paper certificates printed on a home computer that my lodge hands out at Winter Banquet.

You might be surprised to see just how well that green wool jacket is doing. To my knowledge those are no longer for sale by the BSA which means there was a very short run of only a few years on those. Be careful if you bid on this one – my recollection is that they run very big because I ordered one and had to sell it off when I tried to wear it and was swallowed up by it.

My December Sales Catalog is still alive and kicking through the end of the month. If you haven’t clicked over to see if anything fits your collection give it a look. I’ve got over 800 camp patches in the catalog this month.

I just want to remind everyone that the the first TOR of the new year will be held in Florence, SC on the first Saturday in January. Come down (or up!) and join us at the Pee Dee Area Council Scout Memorabilia Show on January 3 from 9AM – 4 PM.
