Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter December 14, 2018

Last night I got another hat to wear in Scouting. I volunteered to serve on the troop committee in my daughters new Scouts BSA Troop 233 that is being formed in Charlotte. I am eminently qualified for the position of communications secretary responsible for setting up an email system and getting the word out for this brand new troop.

In the middle of January you can’t really trust the weather in too many places around the country to make travel plans. However the weekend of January 18-19 you can go ahead and book a room at the Quality Inn of Easley for Chris Jensen’s South Carolina Trade-O-Ree. I interviewed Chris about his annual show with a link to that in today’s issue.
In the interview I describe Streamwood as being like an anchor store in the shopping mall. When you go to his TOR there will be an entire wall with 10-12 tables full of memorabilia that Chris has hauled from his warehouse just miles away. The silent auctions are also a big part of the fun with nearly 1,000 items available. You can find more details and a link to the TOR flier on the post I published on scoutpatchcollectors.com.
Next week I will be publishing episode #84 of my Scouting Hot Finds Radio podcast. My interview is with Stuart Tucker of the Mecklenburg County Council. Stuart is a counselor for Collections and Scouting Heritage merit badges. Serving as a counselor for either of these merit badges is a great way for adult collectors to give back and grow the next generation of Scouting historians.
I have already had one spouse reach out to me asking what her husband normally orders so she can get him some Best Hobby Pages for under the tree. What better project to do in the days after the holiday than to sort and organize your collection! Tell your spouse I can be your secret Santa! 🙂
The santeeswapper has 134 live first time auctions up on eBay this week. With me getting a handful of auctions every night I have them closing on every night of the week.
I won’t make any promises but I did reach out to Brad England last night about filming a new episode of Thread Heads. If you have never watched an episode of this video blog show try it out and see if you have ideas you want us to run with on the reboot.
