If you watch eBay closely you already know that OA items account for a pretty good chunk of the high dollar items that sell in the Boy Scout category. Doing some research on the Boy Scout category I've figured that during January 2010 there was about $513,400 worth of items sold. So the obvious question is how much of that was OA? There is not scientific way to get this figure but I can give it an educated guess. If you just take the Order of the Arrow subcategory and total up the sale there you can arrive at a best guess figure. Its true that there are OA issues sold which are not listed in the subcategory and items OTHER than OA which are sold in the OA subcategory. But just for sake of an argument if you do the math there was $139,300 worth of items old in the OA subcategory which would account for 27.1% of all items sold in eBay Boy Scouts.

What would a monthly report be if I didn't list the biggest winners and losers of the month!? Check out the items below to see the three top selling items from the last month and the three biggest whiffs (high minimum bid that failed to sell). Its interesting to note that one seller has three out of the six items listed below.

One of the sellers that I've had featured in the Hot Finds Newsletter several times recently is noelle3. So I decided to go in and see what kind of month she has had selling on eBay. Turns out over the last thirty days she is just shy of $10k in sales with 158 items selling at an average price of $58.75. The nice things is she's not finished as she is welling off a big collection and is still on a strong run. These are the best items she auctioned over the last month.

I know the seller rustridd who recently sold a nice batch of OA items on eBay. He contacted me just after the auctions ended and had this to say about the items he was selling.
FYI--This is not my stuff I'm auctioning. It's the collection of a close friend who was on HNW staff with me back in the 70's. He was also my finance adviser when I was lodge adviser. He was never much of a trader but was mostly into Jambo stuff. When I showed him the replica "fake" jambo stuff that came out in 1973(?), he got discouraged and I talked him into collecting what I was collecting at the time--Southern lodge flaps. (Which is why most of the flaps in the auction were from the South.) Many of the earlier items he got from a Dave Leubitz (sp?) mail auction that I shared with him. Leubitz was probably before your time. Anyway, I remember him beeotching about having to pay over $100 for the flaps he won. Boy is he going to be surprised at what he's getting for them! Anyway, he got out of Scouting around 1979. He now has terminal cancer. He's hoping to get enough $$ to help pay for his daughters wedding. Just thought you'd like to know where these came from.--WWW--Rusty
