Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter August 29, 2023

Guys who were Scouts of the baby boom generation sometimes have some really cool stuff in their collections that they probably didn’t take on a camping trip. Yesterday I opened a box as soon as it arrived because I was anxious to see a pair of knives that were in the photographs shared with me. Boy was I surprised.

It turns out in this Scout collection I got two WWII German pieces that were likely classic vet bring backs from the war. Both knives had metal sheaths which was a giveaway that they were military. After posting in a military forum on Facebook I discovered that I had purchased a classic German bayonet (yeah the blade is about 12″ long) and the other is what they call a trench knife.

So of course I reached out to my friend in Nebraska Bill Chadek to see what he could do to clean these up. They are now on their way to Bill so he can polish the blades and sand and repaint the sheaths. I really have no idea what I’ll do with them but these might just sit near my desk as cool talking pieces when I have people over to the warehouse.

On eBay I have 191 live auctions including OA, World Jamboree and camps. I am keeping up the auction first strategy on my OApatch account with 151 live auctions this week on flaps and conclave issues. I am selling off troop neckerchiefs along with camp and other vintage ones totaling 83 live auctions on SanteeswapperStore this week.
