Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter January 10, 2021

Yesterday I spent the day doing Scouting. Our troop went about 2 hours northwest into the “snow line” from our recent storm. The Scouts went snow tubing at Hawks Nest which included a fun snow ball fight at a park afterwards. I don’t know if the Guide To Safe Scouting allows that but when you are from the Carolinas snow is such a rare treat that there should be an exemption.

Tomorrow you can look for me to drop Episode #90 off my podcast Scouting Hot Finds Radio. This is my interview with Doug Schwab focusing on the 2019 World Scout Jamboree museum. Thanks to the support of my SHF Insiders I was able to subsidize the cost of editing the audio and getting it ready to publish. But I need your help to grow that group and to record, edit and publish 23 more episodes in 2021.

As things turn to 2021 it’s also time to focus on summer camp. I literally got a call yesterday from a SM while I was in the bathtub. Troops are making decisions and we have 2 zoom camp promotions scheduled tomorrow night. My daughter got her contract in the mail this weekend so the staff is coming together as well. I’m looking forward to spending 5+ weeks at Camp Barstow this summer.

I have 134 auctions on eBay with about 80 of those being conclave issues ending tonight. These include a large run of Bicentennial year 1976 issues and a bunch of stuff from Section SR-6N including some ceremonies staff pieces. Over on ScoutPatchHQ I’m winding it down with only 13 auctions remaining on an old 1950s collection.

Today we are putting away all the Christmas decorations. I know it’s pretty late but we have been on the run and also just wanted to enjoy it a little longer. Here is to hoping that next Christmas won’t involve outdoor worship and lock downs.
