Friday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter February 22, 2019

Last night I was invited to do a camp promotion in our neighboring council. I attended the District Committee meeting and gave my pitch at the Round Table. The York District of the Palmetto Council has a lot to be proud of. They had about 80 Scouts earn Eagle last year. Recently five new Scouts BSA all-girl troops have been formed. Their home camp was closed by a flash flood last May so we are reaching out to suggest that they consider Camp Barstow this summer.

Once again I was able to pass out Scout mugs as a friendship gift and to promote the Charlotte TOR. One lucky leader won the door prize and got a 1947 Scoutmaster’s Handbook. I saw some familiar faces including a good friend I went to college with that I don’t think I’ve laid eyes on in more than a decade. All together I believe 5-7 troops from that district are coming to Camp Barstow in 2019.

I was tipped off to a really interesting online auction on 350+ lots starting at $1 each. This is not on eBay but is being run through an auction company that uses a website called proxybid. There is some cool stuff in here and you can’t beat the minimum bid for sure!

Thank God my mother is not going to visit my warehouse anytime soon! I’ve forgotten how many days I’m into the total sorting job. I’m going through every box that came over in the move last year and putting similar things together. Yesterday I dumped out misc gallon bags that I know I’ve had for 10+ years. I found Eagle medals, a Silver Award medal and more hat pins and junk than I know what to do with. I’ve solicited some ideas on Facebook of how to display odd things like pins, bolos and slides at a TOR and received great tips. Come to the Charlotte TOR if you want to see it all available for sale!

Yesterday my daughter wore her new Scouts BSA uniform for the first time.  There was a long delay in getting larger sizes of the new style in the Scout shops.  Right now her uniform is very bare but I did make sure she wore her USA contingent patch for the 2019 WSJ on her pocket. 🙂
