This Eagle Scout Helped Chuck Yeager Break The Sound Barrier

I love getting Boy Scout collections and hearing the family story that goes with it. But this one tops them all. This ambitious Scout grew up to be the Aerodynamic Engineer on the X1 project that helped Chuck Yeager break the sound barrier. Ever wondered why the X1 looks like a flying bullet? Paul Emmons figured out how to achieve this milestone and that was just one of his contributions to science and aerospace engineering. But it all started with him becoming an Eagle Scout in Iowa in the 1930s! This is a gem – enjoy!

I collect Scouting memorabilia and if you have a collection out there that needs to be shared instead of sitting in a closet or basement please reach out. It doesn’t need to be from a person who has a Smithsonian credit – I want to hear the story big or small. Please feel free to send me an email/text/call to share the details.
