Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter March 3, 2015

Turns out the BSA National Annual Meeting is coming up this May in Atlanta. Since it’s close a guy in my council has been trying to round up a crew to attend and he’s invited me to join the caravan. I’ve obviously never been to this event but apparently anybody can sign up to attend so I’m considering it.

Right now in the world of Boy Scouts I don’t have too many official titles. In the Cape Fear Council (where I live) I am part of a 100th Anniversary Committee led by Bob Walton. The local council was chartered in 1916 and they are planning a year long celebration. I’m helping to research and write up some history on Scouting in my local area.

In the neighboring council where I grew up I think I am pretty much a member at large for one of the districts. I’ve got some ideas to help market the camp on the camping committee and I recently had a conversation with the Council President on that topic. But other than supporting the council with an FOS contribution I’m not active at this time.

However, on the horizon I’ll be dipping my toes into the Scouting program on both ends. My son Patrick will be a Tiger in about 16 months. Sophia has to make it through her middle school years but we’ve already talked about her becoming a Venturer. So maybe I would enjoy going to Atlanta and hearing where the organization is going. Who knows I might get to snap a selfie with Dr. Gates!

If you see something in the store that you are interested in I’ve got a special discount code that you can use to get a 15% discount. When you get to checkout use code 3215 and the discount will be applied to your order. As always you can pay with check or money order. Here are some picks from www.ScoutPatchHQ.com below.

Later this week I’ll begin the project of expanding my antique mall booth in Lumberton at Somewhere In Time Antiques. If you are ever driving down Interstate 95 I now have two booths about an hour apart that you can stop by and check out. You can find details at www.Santeeswapperstore.com.
