Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter April 23, 2019

So apparently one camp had a tradition called “Throwback Thursday” where the camp staff would wear vintage uniforms that day only. At my camp we typically are only in Class A (can I still call it that?) at the evening meal. So outfitting the whole staff in those classic green shirts and shorts just might be possible with what I have on hand.

My opinion on that is you should try and have the insignia be correct for the uniform if you are going to do it right. So I can coach them up a little and even offer some free patches to get the rank and insignia right. The shoulder patches will be a little trickier because I’m sure I don’t have a stash of the age appropriate CSP or community strip but that will give them something to hunt for.

We are having a staff work weekend May 17-19 so I will get to pitch this idea then and perhaps even pass out the uniforms. That way they have about 3 weeks prior to staff week to get the uniform outfitted and patches sewn on. If it all comes together I’ll be sure to share a picture this summer.

For the rest of April I’m launching at least 50 new auctions every night. These are completely new listings featuring mostly OA flaps. I’m starting all of them at the same minimum bid and see where the chips fall on a 7-day auction.

This weekend I’ll actually be at Camp Barstow with my son’s pack in Charlotte. We are going there for our spring camping trip. It’s about a 2hr 15min drive for our folks and we look to have a good crowd. If I’m lucky I will figure out how to break loose and get some pioneering poles cut before a bulldozer does some renovations in one spot at camp.
