Friday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter April 01, 2022

For many years a treat that all of us could wait for was John Pannell’s annual April Fool’s prank. I don’t know how long it would take him to dream these up but on his website OAimages and also on Patch-L (I think) he would post a very elaborate and official sounding April Fool’s joke having to do with Scouting. Sometimes these were “official” policy changes or otherwise somewhat believable stories. The best part was to sit back and see how many people would get fired up about these posts believing them to be authentic breaking news! For those of you in the the Carolinas it was reminiscent of the tales that Charlie Sullivan would tell including the “Vigil Lottery” as he made the rounds as a speaker at Winter Banquets.

Although April Fool’s Day is my birthday (shout out to my birthday brother Matt Delk) I have never been into creating practical jokes and trying to carry them out. But a well crafted story like John’s was almost a mirage so well thought out. John is not active in the hobby any longer but I salute his old tradition and raise a toast to clever fun on this day when everyone is allowed to be a little mischievous.
On eBay I have 256 live auctions including camp neckerchiefs, OA, and a whole lot more. I try and seed my auctions with some variety each day to keep things interesting.
My project over the last few days has been building more shelving in my patch warehouse. I took apart some metal shelving and rebuilt it to go taller. Then I built another dozen feet of wooden shelving. I think the other answer to my space problem would be to stop buying so much Boy Scout stuff but that’s a terrible idea!
