I spoke on the phone with Rick Stewart recently and learned that he has some health struggles. So I wanted to share my podcast interview with all of you where we talked about his long running ISCA Journal series about visiting Scout museums. I enjoyed this interview and definitely think it’s worth a listen and as a way to say thank you to Rick for sharing all the trips with us in the Journal.
When I published this episode about 5 years ago one of things I lamented was that there are no Scout museums in my home state of South Carolina. I can count at least 4 in the tarheel state between camps and a private one. With the help of John Fort I got the by-laws for the museum committee in Wilmington and passed those around when my council was merging. But there doesn’t seem to be enough interest in that idea. The by-laws are modeled on those of the Old Hickory group that has been around for 25+ years.
I know Scout museums exist in lots of forms from ready Rick’s articles. Some are in council office displays that take over a room. Many are at a designated building at camp. Others are private in someones home or farm house. But what I like about the By-laws that John shared is that it lays out a structure and council board approved model for how these museum committees exist within a council. Anything like this has to be bigger than the one man who has a dream.
Tonight on eBay I have 25 auctions ending among the 175 that I have live on the site. Many of these are SAPs and OA flaps.
