Friday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter September 16, 2022

 

 

This weekend is the final days of the big sale running on Russell Smart’s Shopify Store at www.SmartScoutPatches.com. He has great OA odd shapes and first flaps marked down up to 15% off. This sale has been running for a few weeks but this weekend is the final chance to get these patches at this discount.

 

Over the last few days I’ve sorted a couple thousand shoulder patches and today I’m going to try a novel way to sell them. I have created 100 patch lots of CSPs and will see if I can move them for about $2 each in total. I usually list them on eBay in singles for $4.95 and I have thousands already up. So I’m trying something different because of one of the podcasts I’ve been listening to lately and getting some business advice.
I have 210 live auctions on eBay this week including trail, high adventure and camps. Next week one of my priorities will be scheduling out auctions for the next month.
Well yesterday I broke down and did the unthinkable. I rented a 5’x15′ climate controlled storage unit nearby. The pain point is since I’ve been in my 2000 square foot warehouse for the last 2 1/2 years I’ve been storing all the Best Hobby Pages product inside an 8×9 office. But as the minimum order has gone up to 25k units on all the pieces I’ve been forced to start storing boxes of BHP anywhere I can find room in the air conditioned office side of the warehouse. Now I have a 100 box order in with the manufacturer and I simply have no place to put it when the truck arrives. So the 5×15 will allow me to store all the BHP (minus what we need to fill orders) less than a mile away. The other bonus is that I get the soon to be vacated office space back since it won’t be used as a big storage closet. That will allow me to create a listing room with scanner and camera set up. In the future I could also add another employee to take on some of those roles. PSSS just don’t tell my wife I got a storage unit!
