Friday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter September 27, 2019

At last night’s troop meeting the lady from the Supply Group in Charlotte came back to visit our troop and get some feedback on clothing styles. She is looking at offering some new choices for Scout shorts based on what our girls are wearing (bringing back the Oscar style shorts). It’s exciting to see our Scouts have an influence on this whole new world of Scouts BSA girls.

This weekend the Webelos of the King Cobra patrol are going on a joint camping trip with our local Troop 33. This is a get to know you trip where the 4th and 5th grade Scouts will learn some Scout skills from the big boys and see how it’s done. We have some hiking scheduled for Saturday morning. For this trip we are going to Camp Grimes in western NC. Ironically I have not been to Grimes since the day after I graduated high school. Back in 1991 I drove there on a Saturday to attend National Camp School in order of get trained as the Camp Coker Ecology Director.

When you don’t know what something is worth I have always defaulted to throwing it up at auction. Ok maybe the way to reword that is not knowing what someone is willing to pay for a patch. So on my 5dollarpatchstore account I’ve been running auctions on council (CP) and district patches to see if the good ones will rise to the top. So far I’ve sold one for $150 so the theory must work!

I’ve got over 200 live auctions on their first run on my oapatch account. These are from a big collection I got a few years back that are just now seeing the light of day.

The Sunday issue will come out a little later in the day as I’ll be coming back from a weekend camping trip. You only get a handful of these trips with your son at this age so I wouldn’t miss it for the world.
