Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter August 19, 2018

If you have ever moved as an adult then you know what the last 24 hours have been like at my house. I guess one sign of things is I went to deliver a load to the Goodwill truck parked near my neighborhood and the nice lady said Oh no I don’t have room for all that you’ll have to go to the store to donate. Most of that was toys and kid clothes that in another day might have been for a yard sale or consignment sale but we just don’t have time to deal with it now.

If all goes well the new employee will start Wednesday which is pretty good timing. We close on the new house Thursday, move over the weekend and my son starts 3rd grade that Monday. I might actually have a full week to work in the warehouse for the first time in months. I’ve got to supercharge my listing productivity.

Our Pack is gearing up for the Scout Me In phase of recruitment. Our chartered organization agreed to make the pack boy/girl so when we go out into the schools next week it will be uncharted territory. I know we have some female leaders already signed on to lead a female Webelos den. Now to see what roundup holds!

Is there a chance that opening the doors to female Cubs and next year Scout aged girls will grow our hobby? I really haven’t heard anybody talk about this. Could this be the change that shakes up the declining numbers and stabilizes or even grows the BSA movement in the coming decade? Of course nobody knows but it will be interesting to serve as a unit volunteer and a Camp Director during these historic times.

I have been working to catch up on posts for the newsletter archive I maintain at www.ScoutPatchCollectors.com. If you’ve missed an issue typically you can find it as a blog post over there. Next week I should get all caught up through June reposting the material.

Next week I have a couple of meetings with folks about collections that I’m excited about. One is with a person who called me out of the blue and might have a nice small collection from the late 1950s. Every time I stumble into one of these it’s like anticipating Christmas morning.
