Friday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter December 19, 2014

I got a call from someone yesterday asking me to about some old issues of Boy’s Life Magazine. I should have known this but there is a searchable archive of every copy over on the website. You can search people’s names or like me things you are interested in collecting and pull up the old articles. Very cool!

I talked for a long time to a great Scouter in my home council yesterday named Larry Green. Some of you may know him from the website he has built to really push the outdoor skills program in the BSA over at He has some great videos and tons of articles that I highly recommend.

The conversation with Larry was in regards to the council’s camping committee trying to organize an alumni group that would financially support the operations of the camp. I am sure there are other models of this in use around the country so if you can share ideas on how this might work please consider emailing them to Larry Green.

Yesterday I shared a special sale that Russell Smart is conducting to put some of his Scout handbooks into new homes. If you are interested check out this offer by clicking the picture here and seeing what he has available. All of these are teens and twenties editions.

This month my straight sale catalog featured over 800 camp patches marked down 20% off the asking price. If you open the catalog you can see I have patches from the 1940s-2000s from councils all over the country.

I added the Old North State TOR to the calendar. If you have any more that you don’t see send them in and I’ll put them on there.
