The theory that I try and live by with the antique mall booth strategy is why pay for a storage unit when you can have your stuff out for sale for a similar price. Well maybe the math isn’t exact but most antique mall booths charge you about $1.25 per square foot. So my 10×10 is $125 per month while a similar storage unit would be maybe 1/2 that.
If you’ve got tons of uniforms, books, 3D objects and my best seller ($1 patches) then you might consider this strategy too. The huge mall I use in Florence, SC is open 7 days a week and all sales are put into a computer system so I get an email every night when I get a sale. They do all the work I just have to keep it stocked.
So the next question you have is what is the success rate? Well out of 12 months here is how I would break it down. Probably 6 months out of the year it breaks even and maybe I’m $50 to the positive. About 3 months I don’t quite meet the rent and I end up owing them $. Then about 3 months out of the year I get surprised with some big sales and get a check for a couple hundred dollars. So it’s not a strategy to make or break my business model but it solves an important problem – what to do with all the STUFF that you end up with when buying collections.
