Got a phone call from a Scouter out west this week that is looking to part with a collection that is mostly rank patches. Looks like this guy and his son put together a pretty good set of frames but like many he was missing most of the heavy hitters. Doesn’t that kinda describe a lot of our collections. We are 90% finished but getting that last 10% is just impossible.
One my patch projects that I’m slowly working on is making Boxware frames for each big national event. I have a collection of Jamboree stuff in notebooks but now I’m remaking that into just a single frame for each event that I can then use as part of a historical display. I hope to do that with lots of other topics to have a broad representative collection.
There is a Facebook Group just for displays and historical preservation. I’ve used it for inspiration and to get and share ideas about how to put together frames. I hope more people will share pictures of their collections in that group as I think collectors need to be more proactive promoting the hobby.
This week on eBay I’ve got a lot of Jamboree sets from 2005 and other years. These are all parts of a consignment that I am selling off for a CA collector. One of the nicest things he has sent me to sell is a 1st Edition hardback handbook. It’s hard to know how to value this one as it does have a spine repair so I am running it at auction to see what the market will pay. I don’t collect Scout books myself so I’m curious to see what it will do.
