Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter September 17, 2017

I need to make room for more stuff so I’m running a 15% off sale on the remaining items from the IL Trunk collection that I featured last week. Use discount code “trunk15off” at checkout. This includes the entire contents of the trunk I got in from a collection. The trunk itself however I’ll be keeping although it may end up in my son’s bedroom if he shows some interest in it.

Every year at the pack camping trip we have a dutch oven dessert competition. Yesterday I got to see “Death by Chocolate” made from scratch and after sampling this cake I think it’s going to be the Den 9 entry come next month. I’ve never made a chocolate cake before as I’ve always been a cobbler kinda guy on camping trips but this one was impressive.

I learned about box ovens during my time as a Girl Scout leader and yes even made some biscuits in them with the girls. The set up they had yesterday at Baloo was really impressive and I can’t wait to find some apple boxes so I can get the Wolves to make one for our camping trip. Charcoal cooking is a great Boy Scout tradition and the staff at the Baloo put on one of the most impressive demonstrations I’ve seen including hobo meals and walking chili. We ate well!

Every night this week I dripped another 20 JSPs from the 1993 Jamboree onto eBay as first time auctions. Right now I’ve got over 125 up that are live. Some of the results have really surprised me which just reinforces my notion that there is nothing that beats an eBay auction.
