Can anyone tell me what country these scout patches are from. The small gray ones are embroidered on gray ribbon like material. I think they may have been collected at the 1975 World Jambo in Norway BUT I don't think they were used by scouting in Norway. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
I spotted this pretty ordinary shirt while building the Hot Finds and had to scratch my head. What am I missing. This shirt already has a bid that is higher than many other listings that I've searched through. What are the chances the seller is shill bidding? If you have ideas as to why its so high please fill us...Read More
I think the laws of supply and demand really come into affect when you are talking about books that are 100 years old like these early Scout handbooks that recently sold on eBay. Just how many 1910 editions can there possibly be left in the world? Probably not enough to satisfy Scout collectors desire to have one especially since we...Read More
The mixed lots in this blog post are worth talking about. At first you might suspect that the same sellers had these two listed. Its not often you see the words "huge" used in a Boy Scout auction title. However, these were indeed by two different sellers. I wrote a little bit about the #2 lot that got 19 bids...Read More
This summer I had the pleasure of attending the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden. Each person received two Jamboree badges that had a light grey border. Within a week after the close of the Jamboree, a special orange border "King's badge" showed up on eBay. It was sold on 8/14/11 by weezethree of Asheville, NC for...Read More
Price guides are a dangerous thing in the hands of a novice. Take for example this eBay listing below. It seems like this guy got a hold of a collection of old Boy Scout paper including mostly Boy's Life mags and a few handbooks. Here is a line from his listing: "Valued at over $7600.00, based on the 2001 Standard...Read More
I don't think many of my Hot Finds readers will have missed the $15k jacket that sold on eBay last week. However, how many of you saw the three 1933 World Jamboree items that were also big sellers? I surely didn't which is saying a lot considering I write a 3/week hobby newsletter focusing on live auctions. I think when...Read More
Ok a question for those who know more about advancement than me. I knew a handicapped Scout at my home camp that earned the advancement that is seen in the listing below but I remember him having the 1st Class emblem in the middle. So is this listing wrong or did the Scout change out the center patch from...Read More
I know if you are a regular watcher on eBay then you've seen eBay seller ajs-shop out of Germany selling "original" Scouting rings. Its pretty clear to everyone that these are knock offs made by this company (or outsourced) and are a total rip off on the BSA brand. I'm pretty sure they even make an OA Vigil ring...Read More
I have been doing the Hot Finds for a couple of years now and I can honestly say if I saw this item in a mixed lot I would never have been clued in that it was from the '47 WJ or that it was worth north of a grand. Luckily this seller was from the UK and he definitely...Read More
I think that all of us who have been through the Scouting program as boys or later as leaders have a respect for these great award medals that sold recently on eBay. The Bronze Wolf medal is not a BSA item but shows you that when it comes to these ribbons and medals that the feeling is pretty universal. One...Read More
Man if I came across a set of felt camp patches from my home camp for sale on eBay I'd have to tap into the equity line credit to pay for them. Luckily the winner of this big lot of nice felt camp patches from the midwest didn't have to do that. Still after 18 bids he did pay a...Read More
Here is a sob story for you from one eBay user to another. So this week I've got some great items up and running from Skyuka Lodge 270. These dozen or so items are from the 1970s and several are really tough to get. One of the best is a rare fellowship patch from 1976. The bicentennial Spring Fellowship patch...Read More
eBay seller discovery626 always seems to have good stuff on eBay. He uses a strategy in selling that drives me nuts though as the editor of the Scouting Hot Finds. His titles have nothing to do with the actual item he is listing. Instead he just stuffs the 80 characters with key words that he knows eBay buyers are going...Read More
