Saturday I was at Camp Barstow in my role as the camp director meeting with senior staff to plan curriculum and conducting interviews. I was excited to have 16 Scouts and Scouters come out for interviews some traveling as long as 2 hours to get there.
Even though it is February there was a lot of activity at camp. Our volunteer group of adult builders nicknamed the “Barstow Bears” was out at camp putting up the walls on this staff Adirondack. This will house 16 staff members and will allow us to begin adding more females to the staff by freeing up one of our staff cabins.
I am also excited to see the newest edition to our fleet. This 26′ Hunter was donated recently and the gentleman also gave money to redo the rigging. Once it warms up a little and we can get it all cleaned up this will become the crown jewel of our sailing program on Lake Murray. I just hope somebody lets the camp director go out on it!
The final accomplishment for the day was filming 4 short videos with Chris McDuffie our Program Director. We have been very active promoting camp on our website and these quick hit videos address lots of questions and important topics we want to highlight. Starting Monday I’ll get back to the office and begin publishing those.
If I’m going to keep up my recent streak of being bi-weekly with the podcast then I need to record another interview tomorrow. I don’t have anything lined up so please send me a message if you have a topic.
