Today I’m going to force myself to set up the studio and film multiple unboxings so that I can process inventory. My Achilles heel in all of this has been getting the content edited. The college kid that was doing this for me dropped out and now I have a bunch of these sitting in the hopper. But I think it’s part of my mission to share the history that comes in these small 1-person collections and so I’ll shout “ACTION” here shortly on a Tuesday.
Funny story – I was approached on Facebook messenger by a young lady who got some old merit badges from a storage locker (or so the story goes). The issue I always have with these contacts is that people in this boat are mercenaries and their intent is make the best deal for themselves versus any connection to the Scouting community. After lots of back and forth a Google search revealed multiple drug arrests on her record. Danger Will Robinson! So I had to let that deal go…maybe she was going to do the right thing but I’ve been burned and I follow Gomer Pyle’s advice “fool me twice, shame on me”.
I usually try to run people through multiple filters when I am contacted. The most important one is to pick up the phone and talk to them. Sometimes the thirty minutes I spend hearing their Scouting journey is the best part of my day and reminds me why I do this for a living.
On eBay I have 220 live auctions with some ending every night. This is the perfect number for my calendar with 20 ending every night of the week and 100 on Sunday. I like trying out those sleepy weekday nights to keep up the interest in my offerings.
