Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter March 19, 2023

Yesterday was a rare meet-up for me. Two brothers came to Charlotte to bring me their parent’s Scouting collection. Both parents had been active including the dad serving as a council commissioner. The boxes contained books, t-shirts, patches, and more. It’s not as easy for me to recycle some of that but since they were bringing these items from several states away I was not going to turn them down.

Many of the projects I’ve been working on are about to be paused as I travel out to Philmont. I am oh so close on the major one to getting my merit badge dupes pushed out on eBay. I have sorted and photographed everything except for the Type G which is the fully embroidered cloth back style. Soon I’ll have everything available on eBay and the most modern issues on my Shopify Store.

When I get back from going out west I’ll have 8 weeks before I leave for summer camp. Last year I literally made a countdown clock on a dry-erase board in my office. I don’t think I’ll have to go there to motivate myself to make progress daily as I have developed a journaling habit that works pretty well. By the end of April, I hope to have everything that is sorted either scanned or just about there.

I have 76 auctions running on OApatch with that group including dozens of really good OA including a $1k+ first flap. On Santeeswapper you will find the tip of the iceberg when it comes to camp patches. Right now I have 235 auctions and mixed in there is the beginning of my camp patches which are sorted, scanned, and ready to launch. All told I think I have about 5,000 of these from all over including some felts scheduled to go to auction.
