Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter April 6, 2025

We had a blast at the Charlotte TOR this weekend seeing so many Scouting friends. Thanks to Troop 133 the concessions were hopping and everyone was taken care of. My son Patrick and Holly who works for me ran the silent auctions – and with no prior experience did a good job. I cleaned the shelves of all the random stuff I got in collections and I know many people got great deals.

As I explained to my wife last night in order for a TOR to work everyone has to get a win. So that might be having conversations that make a connection and lead to a future deal or relationship. It might mean finding a 1st Edition BSA handbook after the other sharks in the room missed it (yes that happened!). Or it might mean getting some incredible deals on the $1 start silent auctions.

One dealer had made plans to meet with people at the show to close a total of 5-figures in deals on OA collections. But the other side of that is the youth who attended and got their first patch that they didn’t earn. Or the older Scout who got a BSA signal kit that he is going to take home and figure out how to do Morse code. I met a nice couple who have invited me to come see their collection and who knows maybe make a deal. So again this is why I think sometimes that cost and effort to attend TORs is worth it.

On eBay I have 238 live auctions running with OA neckerchiefs being the highlight of the batch. You will see over the next couple of months I’ll have hundreds and hundreds of neckerchiefs added to the store.
