Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter April 2, 2024

I have been a little radio silent and I appreciate a few of you reaching out to ask why. Last week I lost my mom after a brief stint in the hospital due to pneumonia. There really aren’t words to describe the hole in your life when you loose your mom. But I’d like to tell you just a few things that made here the best Scouter I ever knew that didn’t own a uniform.

My mother was the parent of two Eagle Scouts and served as our troop treasurer for probably two decades. When I was going to direct the outdoor Indian pageant at Camp Coker in 1994 she spent the summer sewing costumes that were used for many more years after that. Even recently when we held our final lodge event for Santee 116 she embroidered over 100 OA sashes so we could have a final memento for the brothers.

Some of you met her at the Charlotte TOR where she helped run the silent auction for several shows. Her final project for me was taking about 100 pairs of Scout pants I had and converting them into shorts. Down South we wear shorts probably 9 months out of the year so the idea was this would make it easier to recycle them. Now kids going to camp could get them cheap and still be in uniform. It was fitting that on February 25th she was my Silver Beaver escort on stage when I was presented my award.

On eBay I have 235 live auctions focused heavily on OA flaps and issues. We have been working for a while on getting these issues turned around and for sale so expect to see lots of WWW from me this spring.
