I wanted to acknowledge an email many of us got from Brett Estrade last week regarding the retirement of what some of us still call PatchTrends.com but later changed to BoyScoutPatchInfo. While the site is still up and running he has given up trying to herd the cats and collect ongoing eBay sales data. But we should celebrate his efforts as one of the key pieces of the hobby over the last decade.
So my part in the story is a similar “retirement” from John Pannel updating his prices realized on OAimages.com. In 2011 I manually took a screenshot of every sale in our category over $100. All of the prices realized books that I published the following year in 2012 are now available as free downloads by the way. Brett was a computer programmer and patch collector who figured out how to crack the API and get eBay to feed him the numbers. So I threw in the towel in 2012 (yes I was still getting those screenshots) and even helped Brett with some advertising for his site in this newsletter.
