Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter May 30, 2017

With the glacial pace at which the update to the Blue Book has taken I think many local lodge historians have jumped into to create their own local patch guides. Especially with the excitement around the recent OA Centennial I’d say in my area about 1/2 of the lodges now have a pretty formal patch guide. Not all of them are easily purchased or available on the Internet but it’s a sign the local collectors filled the void when Blue Book stalled.

The guide that Nathan and I worked on will really set the story straight on some of the issues from our lodge. For example in the Blue Book it references a Z flap and notes that the known examples were burned in the fireplace. Well turns out that happened more than once and we’ve got pictures of all this documented.

I am going to try and interview Nathan this weekend for my podcast because I think there are several takeaways for anybody trying to do this project which would be helpful. My guess is that some of you reading this newsletter right now have a guide book in you waiting to be written!

Despite a really good pace of auctions my eBay store is now at over 8,600 items and growing. I’ve run through most of the Kentucky collection that I have been listing but now I’ve got more boxes going through the process. I’ve been on a tear and other than plans to go to Disney with the kids in June I hope I can keep the pace up through Jamboree time.
