Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter August 14, 2022

 

 

We are having a Santee Lodge Reunion the Saturday of our Fall Fellowship. I am part of a planning committee that is working out the details of the schedule for this Saturday event. We are hoping to make it a fitting send off and a great opportunity for old friends to reunite.

 

On the topic of mergers the two councils merged on August 1 (2 weeks ago) and the lodges will wind down their calendar year before merging on Jan 1 with the new recharter. There is a small group of youth that will start working on those conversations in the coming months. The camp that I grew up going to (Camp Coker) will be used going forward for program and weekend camping. The plan is to run Scouts BSA summer camp only at Barstow. Camp Coker will get to host some pieces of the year round program including a mix of Cubs, Training and OA.

 

Our planning committee has taken a lot of advice from Tripp Clark who has organized multiple reunions for camp staff and Muscogee Lodge. One of his suggestions was to create a 1-page website where we could post the latest information. So one of our committee members (literally during the zoom) grabbed SanteeLodgeForever.com and we now have some of the bare bones information on there. More to come!

 

I have 123 live auctions on eBay as I wind down my focus on 2022 NOAC items. The best pieces got sold in the first wave and I’ve been relisting ones that I have quantity of. Tonight I’ll start to get back on my normal schedule by listing a batch of 100 vintage event patches and then have my normal schedule of posting auctions ever night.
I am leaving the beach Thursday night so I can get the kids back to Charlotte. Then on Friday it’s a quick turnaround for the Occoneechee TOR at Camp Durant. I was hoping to take a bunch of North Carolina OA to that event but I have not been able to get it researched and priced with my camp duties and family vacation. But I’ve got plenty of stuff in the warehouse that I can grab to fill my tables.
