Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter September 09, 2018

Tomorrow we fire up our first night of the program year for the Bears of Den 9. Right now we have nine Cub Scouts but I will see Monday if some of those fall off or hopefully we add a few new fresh faces. Our pack will also start up some female Cub Scout dens so it’s the beginning of a new era.

In a couple of weeks I need to attend a Saturday only training event in my council called Scouter Success. Training is a never ending task in the program and when you did most of your hard core Scouting back in the last century like me then there is plenty to catch up on.

The other big thing on my plate is camp promotion. Working with the Program Director we have to finish our brochure and leaders guide ASAP. Starting this week we are attending Round Tables to conduct camp promotions. Then the first weekend of October we are driving down to South Florida for twin camp promotion expos for the troops down there.

Camp promotion season is kinda strange because even though we just finished our first summer many troops have annual planning conferences where they make plans for 2019. So we need to get on their radar now. Add to that the fact that we have designed an all new program for camp so it’s time to get the word out.

I have a run of first time live auctions on eBay right now including several felt and 1950’s era camp patches from across the country. Many of these came from collections that I have been sitting on for a while so I’m excited to see what they do.

My family is wrapping up our quick beach vacation today just in time to beat the hurricane that bearing down on the southeast. Ironically it’s named Florence which is also the name of the headquarters city for my boyhood council in SC. Hopefully this one turns away and doesn’t cause any damage.
