Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter September 5, 2021

Yesterday I was able to combine two things that I love to do. At 5:30 PM a couple visited me at the warehouse to sell a small but vintage late 1950s early 1960s collection. I worked on sorting and taking pictures of the collection leading up to 7 PM kickoff for my SC Gamecocks who were playing an FCS opponent on a streaming service. So as I was watching my team dismantle their opponent I resold many of the items via the Scout Patch Collectors Facebook Group.

How fast can some things sell on Facebook? I literally sold one item less than 60 seconds after posting it and had two others interested almost immediately (maybe it was under priced?). I think by halftime I had recouped my money on the collection and by this morning was well into the black where I wanted to be.

It’s very time consuming to sell like this on FB with multiple messages going back and forth but it’s also satisfying to not sort another box of stuff into the black hole at the back of my warehouse. Instead these items are already packaged and ready to go and the money is in my PayPal account. If I was smart this would become a regular part of my strategy to just bulk sell smaller collections and keep the inventory moving.

I have 82 live auctions right now up on eBay including event patches and OA. Tonight I’ll be launching some auctions as a result of my Philmont sorting project. Turns out I had a few $100+ items in that tub so there’s no time like the present to put those up for bids and find new homes for them.

We are just 2 weeks away from the Charlotte TOR! I know some others shows have cancelled (Atlanta) but we are all set. The city requires everyone to wear a mask indoors so the church will ask the same of those attending the show. But we have in-person schools and everything else functioning with masking up so it’s a small price to pay to not be virtual. I hope you can make plans to attend!
