Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter October 07, 2018

I know a few folks are probably wondering why or how a bunch of camps from all over the country (yes as far away as South Dakota) would have an organized trade show to pitch to these troops. As the executive in Ft. Myers told me in the summer his camp has temps in the high 90s and mosquitoes big enough to carry a man away. So for many years the councils at the bottom of the Florida peninsula have not run summer resident camps and instead invited other camps to come pitch.

I saw many of the camps represented that I’ve visited for conclave over the years and met several friendly faces there. One of those was James Barton who was my Section Chief when I was a freshman in college. He has been the Director of Camp Ho Non Wah for many summers. I was also able to catch up with a few guys I went to camp school with.

In preparation for the shows we launched out new camp promotion website. It’s still not the full version that will go live later this month (with leaders guide TBA) but you can check it out at

We are going to have some cool features on the website including an eCommerce section to raise some money for the camp by selling old memorabilia. The one I’m excited about is using a print on demand service to sell vintage design t-shirts. So what if you could recreate (nearly identical) that favorite t-shirt design from when you were on staff for the first time. It’s a bit out there but we are thinking about it for our alumni.

This week I’ll be back in the office Tuesday bright and early to catch up on shipping. September was a good month as I had some unique items go up for auction from recent collection purchases.
