Tuesday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter October 02, 2018

Our pack has stand alone female dens now for Wolves, Bears, Webelos and AOL. I also saw in the audience some older sisters that I learned are going to join the Scouts BSA troop that the church is sponsoring when it fires up in 2019. Combined with our AOL den that will cross over that troop will have a solid nucleus of at least ten Scouts to be charter members.

This weekend I’m going on a road trip with my program director to promote Camp Barstow in Ft. Myers and Miami. We will put around 1600 miles on the road and spend long hours behind the wheel. As you may know troops at the very southern part of the state don’t have a home resident camp for the summer and these trade shows give camps in neighboring councils an opportunity to pitch their programs.

In preparation for the trip I’ve been working on a new website that will go live soon. The council has also been creating promotional material that we will use in our booth. Not surprisingly it’s a very competitive landscape to recruit troops to attend camps because there is so many good ones between GA, SC and NC.

This morning I’m going to be working hard on getting a bunch of Michigan OA and shoulder strips listed up on eBay. As I go through boxes here in the office that was one I dumped on the sorting table yesterday. I’ve found it helps my sales by running auctions and constantly adding new material.

This weekend while I’m in Florida my daughter will hopefully be attending her first ever backpacking trip. We have hooked up with a local Girl Scout troop that isn’t afraid to go in the outdoors. At the planning meeting we attended earlier in September they put 1/2 dozen camping trips on the calendar.
