Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter September 27, 2020

I spoke with Russell Smart this week about some projects he has been working on. One of which was the successful summer that the Summit had in camping more Scouts and units than they ever had previously. They did so without any incidents of COVID which is a testament to their procedures and staff. He has been doing a lot of work with the committee for the National Museum as well. If you have visited the Summit many of the items in their display were donated and organized by Russell.

In a short time I’m going to pick my daughter up from our first troop camping trip since February. They attended a camporee that was set up to have socially distanced activities. I hope that this trip will help reignite the unit and get us back on track after a sleepy 6+ months. We had about 20 Scouts going on this trip so I think it just might!

In about 5 days I’ll be driving down to Florida to attend a pair of summer camp trade shows hosted by local councils down there. I’ve already had one Hot Finds reader reach out to say he wanted to come over and say hello. We are in the Fort Myers area Saturday and outside of Fort Lauderdale on Sunday.

Tonight on eBay I have 118 OA flaps and issues ending that include some pretty good stuff. This continues my Sunday-Sunday strategy that has worked out pretty well. Some guys have been using that trick for a decade or more so I sure didn’t invent it.

This morning we got home at about 1 AM from the USC vs. Tennessee football game. It was a loss for the Gamecocks but close right to the end. This was my son’s first ball game so we took in all the sites. It was definitely strange to see the normal carnival of people reduced to a trickle. The attendance was 15k for a stadium that seats over 80k. But memories were made for sure and at some point all Gamecock fans learn you have to deal with the heart break of botched plays and “what coulda been” scenarios. All in all an awesome day!
