Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter November 29, 2020

I am really focusing on my collections lately with an eye on having everything in a format that can be shared as a display with other collectors and Scouts. To that end I am working on a budget version of my frames that hold 4 Boxware frames. Keith Coffey has been coaching me up on some options to serve strictly as wall mounts.

What got me on this latest project is that I have 2/3 of my Carolina OA collection up on the wall in my warehouse. But I’m lacking enough frames to get the last ones up. That includes some of my best pieces. I think I have a prototype designed that should cost me less than $20 in materials. I’ll film a video in case it works and some of you want to run with the idea

One of the things that I’ve settled on is having 1 Boxware frame per national event. So for example on the Jamborees and NOACs I’ll put together one frame to represent the event. This strategy will also let me do the same for things like Sea Base, Philmont, etc. It won’t be a checklist collection of everything issued but a very solid display that can have some written text to go along with it.

Tonight on eBay I have almost a hundred OA auctions ending. A few of these I started at just $1 to see what that strategy looks like. On my ScoutPatchHQ account I also have a couple dozen nice pieces from a 1950s collection I’m selling.

Today I’m working in my warehouse on some of my collection projects. This is my OA name & number collection for lodges that issued flaps. I’ve been working on it over the last few weeks and when I across a need some of the big dealers have gotten some business from me. I’ve bought from TSPA, Gene Cobb and even Roger Ward in the last few weeks. Of course the best find was when I needed something and looked in my own eBay Store to find a patch I could pull down and use.
