Sunday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter December 18, 2022

This weekend I’ve been helping at our council’s Winter Camp by teaching Cit in the World merit badge. The format has me doing the entire badge in 1 day from 8:30 – 5:30 which is a marathon. But yesterday was my rookie season and allowed me to work out the kinks in my lesson plan and presentation. Today I’ve got a bigger class but it’s flowing much better.

The good thing about being at camp is getting to talk to so many leaders, staff members and other Scouts about summer camp. We are holding in person interviews tonight for candidates to join our staff. Next time if I come back perhaps I can get into a group of merit badges like Collections or Scouting Heritage that are a little more fun and not so serious and dense as Cit in the World.

I did make one Scout patch deal however on this trip. A man met me here Friday who had earned his Eagle and Explorer Silver Award in the late 1950s and attended the 1960 Jamboree. He had a nice scrapbook from that event and some patches that I purchased from him. He kept is medals but I got some loose patches and neckerchiefs. I’ve already given away a few of his neckerchief slides and will give some more away tonight.

I have 191 live auctions on eBay including lots of Explorer items and event patches. I figured during this season of holidays I’d auction off some more unusual items rather than my usual mix of OA patches. Every day of the week during December I’m launching 50 new items to the store at Buy-It-Now so there is always new inventory at the Patchblanket eBay Store.
