Later this month I will have two opportunities to share my Scouting memorabilia collection with Scouts and Scouters at conclaves. I will have a booth at the OA-Expo at the NC Cardinal Conclave and a similar set up at the Cornerstone Conclave. Thinking of Mike McAdams (Thrifty Scout Museum) I wanted to make these more than just a bunch of patches in a frame.
I’ve decided to make the exhibit center around my collection of campfire blankets and how they can tell the personal history of the Scout. I have several that are eye popping and have a good story. But the key will be showing the Scouts they too can use a simple pattern to make one of these blankets. The fun part will be having a sorta photobooth where the Scouts can take selfies wearing some of the blankets.
I will have some displays at the Charlotte TOR as well that are more traditional. Some of these will include my collection of NC and SC Order of the Arrow lodges. It has been 10 years since I displayed these collections and I’m looking forward to cleaning my frames and letting these pieces see some daylight.
I have 220 live auctions on eBay including a 1920 PA camp felt that has a ton of watchers. I have slowed down a little on my listing goal for fixed price items. Not because I want to. But we have been running so many OA issues at auction that I don’t have as many BIN items ready.
