When you think of what happens to old Scouting memorabilia collections it’s not hard to imagine that many of them end up with estate sale companies. From time to time I’ll hear from one that has some stuff they are looking to find a good buyer for. Some of it is for sentimental reasons – wanting it to go to someone who would appreciate it. But also because their job is to sell the items for the benefit of the family. So they might look at selling the entire collection in one piece to someone that would buy it all as a smart decision.
That’s what happened in this case as I got a call from Canada and spoke to James W. about a collection he was selling for his estate services company. Now I don’t do much with Canadian and International Scouting items as I don’t know very much about it. But in this case a good chunk of the items were Boy Scouts of America and also vintage from around the time of the 1967 World Jamboree.
This Canadian Scout had gone trading like a wild man at that event and came back with patches from all over the world! Lucky for me some of those patches will fit right into my personal collection including some cool ones from Alaska.
If you have a Boy Scout collection that belonged to dad, grandpa or another family member that needs a new home please reach out. I’d love to hear the story and help you recycle these items back into Scouting. Please reach out – my contact information is on this site.
