Friday Scouting Hot Finds Newsletter March 01, 2019

Well if that $2k+ Lodge 136 flap doesn’t attract a click from you today I don’t know what will. In this era I think that’s a can’t miss item. I posted it on Facebook yesterday and heard that the seller dug up on the family and bought the estate. Home Run!

It’s a good weekend when you can say you are looking at 2 collections sandwiched around a Cub Scout sleepover trip to Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, SC. The first was a total surprise as someone called me yesterday that stumbled across my antique mall booth and took a card. Turns out he has the collection that his mom and dad assembled and is looking to get some money for it. The weird thing is I researched my sales history and YES indeed I sold some of the items to his parents 10+ years ago.

The collection I’m picking up Sunday is one that I’ve known about for a while. The parents have moved to a retirement facility and the kids are getting the house ready to sell. Since dad was a lifetime Scouter you can imagine what kind of stuff is there. I don’t think he was ever a collector but more of an accumulator over his Scouting years.

Now here is the problem. I have just spent 2 weeks organizing my warehouse so everything has a place and no boxes are blocking the aisles. If I push hard today I can even get the floor swept and the sorting table cleaned off. Then I’m going to bring in 2 more collections including the 2nd which I’m sure is full of books and mugs! Nooooo…..

Ok you are going to get a kick out of this! So I snapped a picture of Sophia last night getting some Scout requirement stuff signed off after our meeting. She is not wearing the modern zip-off pants but some classic shorts from the 1990s (thanks Oscar). After the meeting she said “oh yeah dad Mary and Catherine want a pair of shorts like mine”. Finally! There is a market for all the dark green 80s and 90s uniform pants and shorts that I have in tubs. It took Scouts BSA girls with some fashion sense to appreciate these shorts….Oscar de la Renta can sleep peacefully tonight in his grave. 🙂
